Elizabeth Serreau is a native of France, now a US citizen. She comes from a family of artists and artisans. She grew up with the paintings of her grandparents and great-grandfather in her home.
She has taken courses in art history and art while completing a BA in the humanities in France and a Master’s in Library and Information Science in the US. She is currently working on a Certificate in Painting and Drawing at PNCA, Portland, OR. She began her personal art journey in the 90s by creating detailed pen and ink and watercolor drawings, depicting the natural environments from Cannon Beach where she lived 11 years. A workshop in fresco painting in her native region in France from the Centre International d’Art Mural, Saint-Savin sur Gartempe (now defunct) was the start of a fresh direction. Exploring the pigments to lay on the fresh mortar, led to exploring colors in acrylics for figurative paintings. During a 6 months stay in a communal studio in Astoria, Oregon (The Red building) which she shared with other artists, she started using oil paintings. The proximity of the Columbia River, which she could see out of the studio window, and hear under the floor of the building, was greatly inspiring. Since moving to Portland, Elizabeth has continued to work on several series of different themes in oils and in acrylics. She works in realistic and imaginary landscapes, in her studio in France, where she goes every Summer, and in her studio in Portland. |
